President's Message - Eid Mubarak
» 5/23/2020

All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the universe. Peace and blessings be upon his final Messenger, his family, his noble Companions, and all those who follow them with righteousness until the Day of Judgment.

Dear respected elders, brothers, sisters, and children, Assalamu-Alaykum-wa Rahamatullahi-wa Barakatahu.

This past month, we experienced a unique Ramadan that no one would have seen in our lifetime. Unfortunately like all other places of prayers, the churches, temples, and gurdwara’s, even our Masajids had to be closed to public access to safeguard our community from this pandemic. Consequently, we will also be missing out on our large congregational Eid Salah this year as well.

Nevertheless, we Muslims realize and understand Islam teaches us that life of a human being is more precious than our personal ibadah. We stood strong and united in these difficult times by not only safeguarding ourselves in practicing physical distancing, but also took this bold step for the sake of saving other human lives around us. I would like to wholeheartedly thank all the members of our community throughout all our Masajids in BC for practicing much needed patience and tolerance. We, as a community stood strong in these times of adversity by working together to help stop the spread of this deadly virus in our localities.

I would like to remind everyone that this blessed day of Eid is a joyous occasion and let us not be dismayed with our current circumstances of not being able to hold congregational Eid Salah or gatherings. In fact, we should be thankful to Allah subhanahu wata’ala for enabling us in this past month of Ramadan for the quality time spent with our loved ones. Also, to lift the spirits of the Muslim community, the City of Victoria, Vancouver, Burnaby, and Surrey allowed us to call out adhan publicly at some of our designated local Masajids for a few days only during Ramadan. This was truly a beautiful gesture from the various city councils and a history in the making.

During these difficult times, we discovered the importance of Masjid in our lives, and how it remains as a pillar of our spiritual well-being. InshaAllah, it will not be long before we get back into our masjids and centers after carefully outlining the reopening phases and the health & safety guidelines.

Please continue to raise awareness and make dua for our brothers and sisters in various parts of the world who are still going though hardships and are deprived of the freedom and happiness that they deserve.

On this auspicious day, I would like to acknowledge the effort of our Imams who continued fulfilling the rights of our Masajids with 5 times obligatory salah even in this lockdown. They got much needed support from the committee members in various divisions of the B.C. Muslim Association who worked together with the imams to setup online lectures, online Quran and Islamic studies classes for our children, distributed food and supplies to the needy in our community and continued with other special activities in the month of Ramadan.

On this glorious day of Eid Ul-Fitr, we ask Allah to accept our fasting, charity, prayers & supplications, and forgive our shortcomings. We pray that Allah rewards us for our patience and gives us the taufeeq to congregate in our Masajids here once again in BC, in the Haramain and in all Masajids throughout the world.
Please continue to practise safe social distancing and abide by our Provincial guidelines of public gathering.

On behalf of the entire BC Muslim Association, I extend to you and your families, a very joyous… EID MUBARAK!
